DACA—Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a policy implemented by President Obama in 2012. DACA allows certain undocumented immigrants who arrived in the U.S. prior to turning 16 years old to obtain temporary immigration status and a work permit. Unfortunately, the Trump administration has threatened the future of DACA in various ways, including halting filing of applications for new individuals.
However, if you have DACA now or have had it in the past, you may be eligible to renew. Due to the rapidly changing laws surrounding DACA, we highly recommend scheduling a consultation so Brittan and Mary Beth can confirm your eligibility.
We are still waiting for guidance from USCIS on the impact of the June 18, 2020 Supreme Court ruling that the Trump administration unlawfully cancelled DACA. In the meantime, please check our our News & Resource section to find a helpful handout from the Immigration Legal Resource Center on understanding the decision.
Please also see our DACA Renewals post from May 26, 2020 that has a list of local resources for financial assistance for DACA recipients.
